Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity.
Serve as a subject matter expert in discipline or industry.
Demonstrate excellence in the most advanced technical skills.
Oversee client service tasks, ensuring assignments are completed within budgeted time.
Assume full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegate to various tax preparers as necessary.
Delegate and manage tax research projects for an accurate and efficient product.
Actively participate in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist the A&A Department with larger clients.
Act as a resource for tax preparers/specialists and A&A staff on specific tax issues and/or questions.
Assume tax preparation responsibility for more complex business returns.
Assume client service responsibility for clients the Tax Senior Manager works directly with or those delegated from the Partner.
Communicate important tax and tax developments affecting the firm's clients to appropriate personnel.
Delegate and manage governmental tax examinations; may represent the client before taxing authorities.
Maintain familiarity with qualifications of all tax staff members; review staff assignments for appropriateness.
Supervise tax staff and provide on-the-job training.
Work to develop responsible, trained staff by assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, development training aids, and acting as an instructor in professional development programs.
Assume responsibility for smooth flow of tax returns through the tax preparation system to ensure accurate, complete, and timely preparation and delivery of all clients’ tax returns.
Ensure accurate and timely billing and collection processes.
Possess a complete knowledge of the firm's philosophy and its opinions on tax matters.
Maintain knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate.
Prepare other reports and projects as requested by partners.
Research and evaluate tax preparation and tax research software for recommendation to partners.
Participate in firm practice development efforts through involvement with referral sources, community, and industry activities.
Promote the most efficient operations of the Firm and support compliance guidelines in managing others.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge of current tax laws. Prefer experience with both SEC and privately held clients from numerous industries, including complex tax provision experience.
Proficiency in using computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software programs.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to prioritize and meet deadlines efficiently and accurately.
Effective reasoning and critical thinking skills.
Responsible for the development, coaching, and training of senior, semi-seniors, and staff accountants.
Must be familiar with the qualifications of all Tax staff members for the development and instruction of their training needs.
Participate in reviews and evaluations of the tax department.
Minimum of seven to ten years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax complexity, scope, and research.
At least two (2) years of experience representing clients before taxing authorities.
Minimum one (1) year of experience supervising and directing the work of tax preparers.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting required, Master’s degree in taxation preferred.
Minimum of forty hours of continuing education is required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills.
A current and valid certified public accountant’s license is required.
Must be a member in good standing with the American Institute of CPAs.
