The Role You Will Play:

The Estimator position is crucial to the company's success, involving estimating for grading, utilities, and demolition on projects typically ranging from $500k to $20M. The role reports to the Preconstruction Director and is based at the company's headquarters in Columbia, SC.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Estimate projects within the $500k to $20M range
  • Estimate self-performed work, including labor, equipment, and material costs
  • Solicit, review, and prioritize material and subcontractor quotations for management review
  • Possess a working knowledge of construction assemblies and all project phases
  • Produce accurate estimates from conceptual and schematic drawings
  • Develop detailed, final contract estimates
  • Assess site exposures/construction risks and analyze costs accordingly
  • Identify constructability issues and propose value-engineering alternatives
  • Prepare construction handoff package after award and respond to field questions regarding takeoff subcontractor and vendor pricing
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Travel within SC, NC, and GA may be required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Background in Heavy Civil Site Work
  • Four-year degree in construction management, civil engineering, or equivalent (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working as an estimator for a Heavy Civil Contractor
  • Experience in estimating grading, utilities, and demolition
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, etc.)
  • Experience with Agtek, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, CAD, or any other takeoff/modeling software
  • Experience with HCSS or B2W software is a plus
  • Valid Driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
